In Mr Speaker, Sir, Ramli has traced his beginnings in the Malaysian rural heartland through his formal education as well as his sojourn in the socio-political life of the nation. His description of the time helming parliament is the first of its kind and certainly very instructive in his readings of the workings of the Federal Legislature. Among others, he has written on various controversies that took place in parliament while he was the Speaker, a period which foresaw one of the most momentous periods of the country’s continuing journey into nationhood.

Ramli Ngah Talib was born in the Malaysian rural heartland of Pasir Salak, Perak. He was born and raised in a kampung before embarking on further education firstly, in Teluk Anson (now known as Teluk Intan) and then to Malay College Kuala Kangsar. Subsequently, he pursued his studies at Queen’s University, Belfast before going on to the Inns of Court, London. He has reached the pinnacle of his chosen vocation, firstly, as Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of Perak for 18 years and finally being elected to be the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat of the Malaysian Parliament.

Now retired from politics, Ramli has started writing in addition to pursuing his long held position for sports and outdoor activities. His recent book, Meniti Zaman was published in 2010.
